College was supposed to be perfect. She was supposed to be perfect.

For Lily Drummond, life is about following the rules. To be specific, her mother’s rules. College fit into the plan – maintain perfect grades, date the perfect guy, and live the perfect life. On her own, though, Lily realizes that she doesn’t actually have a plan. Without being told what to think and do, she keeps making mistakes.

Away from home, the perfect facade is beginning to shatter. When Lily herself starts to break, it’s the support of an unlikely friend that teaches her how much of a lie perfect really is – and how to be whole on her own terms.

NOTE: This is NOT a romance novel and there is no on-camera sex.

My Thoughts:

*I first want to say that I got this book for an honest review*

Sarah Daltry did a wonderful job at keeping me intrigued throughout No Such Thing as Perfect. At first,  I wasn't sure at how much I would like the flash-backs, but soon I found that they were totally necessary. Yes, necessary, but one thing that the flash-backs caused for me was having a lack of empathy. I think they were supposed to make me feel for Lily or something along that matter, but that wasn't the case...I didn't feel anything really.

I did feel a lot for Lily throughout the book. I hated her mother. No one deserves to get treated the way that Lily's mother treated her and I was so sick hearing her mom speak. I wanted Lily so badly to speak up or say something...ANYTHING. I also hated her boyfriend, at first I was like "YES A LITTLE ROMANCE" but soon after that, literally like 30 seconds more, and I was just not interested in him, one bit.

You may find this book to be romantic and I thought so at first, there were couples and love, but it was so much deeper than that. It wasn't just Lily you had a connection with...so many other characters held your heart and captivated you. You wanted to learn more about their story, about their lives and I am so glad that Sarah went into them. She let you see more into the side characters, she let you see their deep secrets and that was beautiful. Their agony, pain, sacrifice...everything about each character was beautiful and heart-wrenching at the same time.

I highly recommend this read, especially if you are trying to see the beauty in life. If you are questioning some things about what choices you want to make or what road you want to take...READ THIS BOOK. It helps you realize a lot about yourself.

Please check out these books also by Sarah that are now on sale on Amazon *LIMITED TIME* till January 6.

I haven't heard about this one before, but I'm definitely curious now! I'm glad that you're able to connect with so many characters- and not just the MC. Although I do love a good romance, it's nice that the book goes deeper than just the romance, too. Amazing review :)

I would definitely check it out on Amazon while it is on sale. I did enjoy the book and there MAY be a second one coming out which would be wonderful. But, I definitely liked how it had more than just a romance.

Thank you so much for stopping by :)

No Such Thing as Perfect sounds really good, Erica, and I think I need some more NA books in which love and romance isn't the main object of the story.
Great review!

Hmm, sounds like a mix for me, I'd either love it or hate it, I don't mind flashbacks now, I used to hate them in books but got used to them, but I think I'd hate the mother and boyfriend too much, but even that wouldn't have been so bad but having a MC that just takes things gets on my nerves a bit when they don't have a backbone. Glad you enjoyed it though! :)

I was definitely at a mix for me as well. You do feel some pity for her, which I don't like doing, but through the book it becomes better. I would definitely give it a shot, especially since it's on sale on Amazon :)

Thanks for stopping by! Let me know if you end up reading it :)

Great review Erica! This sounds like a perfect (haha) read to add to my TBR shelf, it sounds so deep and beautiful which is what I've been trying to look for. I don't like flashbacks either but if the author does it well, then I'm all in (for example, If I Stay was ALL about flashbacks, but it made the book so heart-wrenchingly beautiful).

Awe thank you so much, I appreciate your kind words. I definitely would recommend it.

The flashbacks weren't all too awful. They did help tie in with the book, I just was eh about them.

Thanks for stopping by!

I had a chance to read this book as well, it is very beautifully written. I will say it is very deep, and thought provoking. I am excited to share this with my daughter when she is older, I wish I had, had a book like this when I was going into college and struggling with so many of the same situations

I completely agree with you. Sharing this with your daughter when she is older is a fantastic idea. Being a college student I related with this book so much and if I had it just before I started it would have been wonderful. Great idea!

Thanks so much for stopping by.
