What to Read: When You Want A Good Mystery

I love recommending books to people so I decided to start a feature here on the blog that allows me to do that.

Today I want to recommend some of my favorite mysteries!

Dangerous Girls

Paradise quickly gets gruesome in this thrilling page-turner with a plot that’s ripped from the headlines and a twist that defies the imagination.

It’s Spring Break of senior year. Anna, her boyfriend Tate, her best friend Elise, and a few other close friends are off to a debaucherous trip to Aruba that promises to be the time of their lives.

But when Elise is found brutally murdered, Anna finds herself trapped in a country not her own, fighting against vile and contemptuous accusations. As Anna sets out to find her friend’s killer, she discovers harsh revelations about her friendships, the slippery nature of truth, and the ache of young love.

Awaiting the judge’s decree, it becomes clear to Anna that everyone around her thinks she is not only guilty, but also dangerous. And when the whole story comes out, reality is more shocking than anyone ever imagined...

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer, #1)

Mara Dyer doesn’t think life can get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there.

It can.

She believes there must be more to the accident she can’t remember that killed her friends and left her mysteriously unharmed.

There is.

She doesn’t believe that after everything she’s been through, she can fall in love.

She’s wrong.

The Name of the Star (Shades of London, #1)

The day Louisiana teenager Rory Deveaux arrives in London marks a memorable occasion. For Rory, it's the start of a new life at a London boarding school. But for many, this will be remembered as the day a series of brutal murders broke out across the city, gruesome crimes mimicking the horrific Jack the Ripper events of more than a century ago.

Soon “Rippermania” takes hold of modern-day London, and the police are left with few leads and no witnesses. Except one. Rory spotted the man police believe to be the prime suspect. But she is the only one who saw him. Even her roommate, who was walking with her at the time, didn't notice the mysterious man. So why can only Rory see him? And more urgently, why has Rory become his next target? In this edge-of-your-seat thriller, full of suspense, humor, and romance, Rory will learn the truth about the secret ghost police of London and discover her own shocking abilities.

Six Months Later

She has everything she's ever wanted. But not her memory...

When Chloe fell asleep in study hall, it was the middle of May. When she wakes up, snow is on the ground and she can't remember the last six months of her life.

Before, she'd been a mediocre student. Now, she's on track for valedictorian and being recruited by Ivy League schools. Before, she never had a chance with super jock Blake. Now he's her boyfriend. Before, she and Maggie were inseparable. Now her best friend won't speak to her.

What happened to her? Remembering the truth could be more dangerous than she knows...

I Hunt Killers (Jasper Dent, #1)

What if the world's worst serial killer...was your dad?

Jasper "Jazz" Dent is a likable teenager. A charmer, one might say.

But he's also the son of the world's most infamous serial killer, and for Dear Old Dad, Take Your Son to Work Day was year-round. Jazz has witnessed crime scenes the way cops wish they could—from the criminal's point of view.

And now bodies are piling up in Lobo's Nod.

In an effort to clear his name, Jazz joins the police in a hunt for a new serial killer. But Jazz has a secret—could he be more like his father than anyone knows?

Dangerous Girls! That book was amazing :D When you finally find out who the culprit is omg!
I really like The Name of the Star too! I think I like the sequel better (more romance lol) but both books are quite fun :)
I'm terrible at remembering books for "favourites" questions, but I did recently read Find Me by Romily Bernard, which was quite a good mystery! Gone Girl is also a bit of a mindf*** haha

Oh man, thanks so much for including Six Months Later on such a great list! Very cool! And Nara, I'm totally with you on Find Me -- LOVED that book! :-)
I love I Hunt Killers!! I can't wait for the 3rd book to come out and just saw on Goodreads that it finally has a title, cover, description, and release date. I got SO excited. Some other mysteries I liked One Moment by Kristina McBride and Hysteria by Megan Miranda... oh and the Mara Dyer books. I totally agree those are addicting!

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, Six Months Later, and The Name of the Star...loved all of those. Have you read Madness Underneath yet? The ending killed me, I have to say. I haven't read I Hunt Killers or Dangerous Girls...I'll have to check them out.

Some great books included in that list. Thank you for taking the time to put it together. I would recommend Adrenaline from John Benedict and then the fantastic sequel 'On The Edge Of Death'. Those two are not only the best thriller novels I have read in years but some of the most exciting page turns I have ever experienced. They are great at building a huge sense of anticipation and excitement without ever being obvious or giving away too much. I adored those books from start to finish. http://johnbenedictmd.com/
I wanted to tell you all about a mystery novel that has recently "gotten under my skin" so to speak. It is called Human Source Code by author Lubos Borik (www.lubosborik.com). It is a very original and thrilling novel about the possibilities of DNA manipulation and the power it could give over the population. An international organization is using "public health care" as a way to change peoples DNA and create "something" new. Detective Klapman sees a link between a group of seemingly unrelated deaths and begins to dig deeper. I love detective novels and also enjoy stories that involve future scenarios that are actually possible, so this one was right up my alley. In a modern world where our privacy seems to be less and less important, It left we with an uneasiness but also a feeling of wonder at what could be. Must read!
