They hear the most silent of footsteps.

They are faster than anything you’ve ever seen.

And They won’t stop chasing you…until you are dead.

Amy is watching TV when it happens, when the world is attacked by Them.  These vile creatures are rapidly devouring mankind.  Most of the population is overtaken, but Amy manages to escape – and even rescue “Baby,” a toddler left behind in the chaos.  Marooned in Amy’s house, the girls do everything they can to survive – and avoid Them at all costs.

After years of hiding, they are miraculously rescued and taken to New Hope, a colony of survivors living in a former government research compound.  While at first the colony seems like a dream with plenty of food, safety, and shelter, New Hope slowly reveals that it is far from ideal.  And Amy soon realizes that unless things change, she’ll lose Baby – and much more.

Rebellious, courageous, and tender, this unforgettable duo will have you on the edge of your seat as you tear through the pulse-pounding narrow escapes and horrifying twists of fate in this thrilling debut from author Demitria Lunetta.

Could you imagine living in a world in which you had to be absolutely silent?  In Amy’s world, the After, making any noise could mean death.  In order to survive the After, she has had to learn how to live in silence.

In the After follows Amy as she watches the world that she has always known get ripped apart by some kind of alien creatures that are very much similar to zombies.  Amy calls these creatures ‘They’ and once They know you are there, they won’t stop coming at you until you are dead

When Amy has to adventure out in the world in order to scavenge supplies, she comes across a quiet toddler.  While at first thinking it would be best if she left her there, Amy eventually decides to take the toddler, whom she names ‘Baby’, with her.  I really loved the relationship between Amy and Baby.  Amy has a very maternal instinct when it comes to Baby, in the sense that she feels responsible for her and she always puts Baby before herself.

Amy and Baby have survived the last three years on their own, and that are used to it being that way.  But one night after they are forced from their home, they are captured rescued and taken to a survival colony called New Hope.

I could tell right away that there was something different about New Hope, but I really wasn’t expecting it to be as messed up it actually was.  Even though New Hope wasn’t was Amy was hoping for, I felt like it was very beneficial to her.  She got to learn Guardian skills necessary in order to survive and she met some people (beside Baby) who really cared about her.

Amy was such an amazing character.  She’s strong, determined, and very loyal.  But one thing that helped her survive in the After may also be the thing that will make her a target in New Hope, the fact that she questions everything around her.

Overall, In the After is a action-packed tale about a girl learning to survive in a world that is very different than what she is used to.  This is a great 1st book in a series and I look forward to the next book.
