10 Books That Will Break Your Heart

Posted on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 12:00 AM
Everyone loves a book that will break their heart, right?  I know there are times when I enjoy a good gut wrenching, heart shattering book.

So today, Erica and I are going to share with you books that broke our heart.  And you can let us know in the comments if you've read any of these and whether or not they broke your heart too :)

5 Books That Broke Christy's Heart

Creed by Trisha Leaver and Lindsay Currie - Some of the things that happen in this book shattered my emotions.

Some Boys by Patty Blount - This book brought out ALL THE EMOTIONS.

Me Since You by Laura Wiess - I just can't even, I'm still not over this one.

Red Hill by Jamie McGuire - Yep, a zombie book made the list.  Here's why: "I know the world ended on a Friday. It was the last day I saw my children." That got me, and I spent the whole book with my heart breaking for Scarlet.

If I Stay by Gayle Forman - This one killed me, I think I cried throughout the whole thing.

Now, lets see the books that have broken Erica's heart!

5 Books That Broke Erica's Heart

Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins I chose for reasons that if you read this book, you will understand. I almost wanted to throw the book and give up after a few moments started to unwind and happen in this book.

Kissed by an Angel by Elizabeth Chandler had me feeling every single emotion possible. Just from reading the synopsis I knew I was bound for tears.

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher was definitely an upsetting book, but the reason I chose this for my list has a lot to do with personal reasons.

Crank by Ellen Hopkins is just a thrilling story to go through,  it was heart-breaking to see what her family went through and all of the repercussions of Crank. I also chose this due to having a personal connection with the idea of this book.

The Fault in our Stars by John Green OH MY LANTA! I finished this book in one night and just cried so much throughout the whole thing. I just watched the movie yesterday and five minutes in I was crying....till the end. It honestly, broke my heart into a million tiny pieces.

xoxo Erica

Oh my goodness, Some Boys was such a heartbreaker. I was alternately sad for Grace and so angry at Ian for taking so long to believe her.

Total heartbreaker! Thanks for stopping by!
Ah yes, good to see TFIOS in there because that one definitely did. I'm curious about Red Hill though, will have to pick it up!

Red Hill broke my heart on a completely different level, maybe it's because I'm a mom with two children and that line just gutted me because I was imagining what I would do to get to my kids if I were Scarlet.

Thanks for stopping by!
So many on here made me cry as well!! TFIOS destroyed me. 13 Reasons was sad. And Me Since You.... jeez!! That book was a downer. Forgive Me Leonard Peacock is one I would put on my list. That book = Epic crying fit. Great list.... I want to read Creed!!! I love books like that :)

YES, Me Since You was a complete downer...but in a good way :)

Leonard was very close to make my list, in fact he would have been number 6 on mine hahaha.

Yes, definitely give Creed a try! I absolutely loved it, even if I wish certain things didn't happen *cries*
I've only read TFiOS and Thirteen Reasons Why but totally agree, though I didn't cry at Thirteen Reasons Why and had a lot of reasons why I disliked it, but still pretty emotional. You both need to read All the Bright Places, if I had to pick one book that completely broke my heart this year, it'll be that one.

All the Bright Places is on my wishlist! I've heard so many great things about it and I'm excited to get my hands on it :)
You're so right. There are so many sad books here! I've had Thirteen Reasons Why sitting on my shelf for quite some time yet, but I know I have to be in the right mood to give it a go, so I haven't read it yet. Great post! :)

Ok, I admit it, I haven't read many of these books (except for Mockingjay, If I Stay, and The Fault in Our Stars) because I really don't like sad books. I don't mind if sad stuff happens, but then I want my HEA. Which is why there are some books that make me very angry when I don't get it. :)

I completely agree, you always want that happy ending, and it stinks when you don't get it. Although, I love sad/sappy books.

Thank you for stopping by :)

This list is just so so true. Especially TFIOS and Some Boys (omg so excited so see it mentioned! I feel like no one has read it and it's soooo amazing!) and Mockingjay and If I Stay. I totally teared up in If I Stay and I NEVER do that in books. I'm usually stoic. xD Buuuut aaah my broken heart. *sticky tapes pieces back together*

I agree, Some Boys is amazing! I had to shed some light on it ;)

If I Stay had me sobbing throughout the entire book! Have you seen the movie yet? Total tearjerker!
Since Christy mentioned all her books I put them all on my TBR. I cannot wait to start reading Some Boys, it looks so gooood!

Thank you for stopping by!
