From Goodreads:
Lucy just had the worst week ever. Seriously, mega bad. And suddenly, it's all too much—she wants out. Out of her house, out of her head, out of her life. She wants to be a whole new Lucy. So she does something the old Lucy would never dream of.And now her life will never be the same. Now, how will she be able to have a boyfriend? What will she tell her friends? How will she face her family?
Now her life is completely different...every moment is a gift. Because now she might not have many moments left.
My Thoughts:
My Life After Now is one of those books that should be made required reading in high school. A lot of teenagers now days think they are invincible and that things like STDs or teenage pregnancy couldn't happen to them. Maybe if we put books like My Life After Now on the required reading list in high school, maybe teenagers would be more careful about having unprotected sex.It seems like 16 year old Lucy has the perfect life, she has wonderful parents, two awesome best friends and an amazing boyfriend of almost two years, but when her 'amazing' boyfriend cheats on her she does something that she would normally never do. She goes to a club in NYC with her friends, has a little too much to drink and ends up going home with a complete stranger. Later Lucy will realize that her choices have changed her life forever.
Lucy is a very strong character, not everyone would be brave enough to get tested after having unprotected sex with a stranger. Once Lucy gets her test results she deals with her positive result the only way she knows how, she pushes everyone away. It isn't until she tells her dads that she realizes she has a very strong support system and that they will love her and be there for her no matter what. My heart broke for Lucy, HIV is a disease that no one should have to endure especially a 16 year old.
My Life After Now is a very powerful and inspirational read. It is one of those books that I will give to my kids to read when they are old enough. This book deals with a very tough subject so if you are looking for a fast and fun read this is not for you, this book is incredibly heart-wrenching and emotional.
Sounds like a touchy and emotional book! Great review :)
ReplyDeleteI really want to read this book. I think it will be good for teens to read not only because it tells them to think about sex and to also maybe not be so mean about kids who have HIV but it might give them a deeper look in to people who have any kind of illness.
ReplyDeleteI'm just about to read about book called "Screwed" By Laurie Plissner its about a girl who had everything and felt like nothing bad would happen when she finds out she is pregnant. Im hoping that it will be as good at this book.
thanks for the review it was really great to read. I will have to go get this book.
