CBA Discussion | How Do You Blog?

Posted on Friday, September 6, 2013 1:00 AM

Today I want to talk about blogging.  I have always been curious to know how all the other bloggers out there handle their blog along with their daily life.  So, I thought this would be a great discussion post.
Personally, I blog every single day.  As soon as I get home from work, I’m on my laptop checking my comments, transferring my posts from my flashdrive (that I use to write posts while I’m at work), returning comments, changing my currently reading picture, etc.
When I started this blog in the summer of 2012, I didn’t realize how much work actually goes into blogging.  Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE my blog and if I could go back in time with the knowledge that I have now, I still would have started it.  This has become a hobby for me, one that I really and truly enjoy. I just love meeting other bloggers and readers that have the same passion for books that I do since I don’t have any friends IRL that does.

{I love my followers}

But, I think I’m getting a little too preoccupied with blogging, because lately my husband has been making comments like “You’re always on the computer” or “That’s all you do”.  And truthfully it does seem like I’m always on the computer.  But that’s because blogging does take up a lot of my time.

I’m also getting ready to start nursing school in a few weeks and I know that my life is going to get even more hectic.  Therefore, I’m trying to come up with a solution that will make my husband happy but also one that will keep me blogging, because there is no way that I can give this up.

So, what I think I’m going to do is, continue writing most of my posts at work *Shhh, don’t tell my boss* and setting aside 1 hour in the evenings during the week to do blog stuff and then putting the laptop aside for family/study time.  I will give myself a little more time on the weekends to blog even if I have to stay up after everyone else has gone to sleep.

My question to you is: How do you blog? Do you have a certain day of the week that you do blog stuff? Do you blog every day?

  1. Great post, definitely! :D I too, have a hard time juggling school and blogging, and sometimes, it makes me feel guilty because my mom says it distracts me from school. This isn't the case though, because I make sure to finish my homework on time. But of course, its true that I look like I'm always just on the computer myself! D: I just try to work ahead on free periods-- I schedule posts, I write early drafts, so that on busy days, I'll have to do less work, and can allot more time to simply checking my feeds for posts on other blogs :) So yeahp, that's how I blog!

  2. This is a great topic. I have a busy life too with juggling work and family and even what passes for a social life (I craft on the weekends with my BFF & her kids) and there have been times that my blog definitely takes a backseat when other priorities make demands on my time. I love my blog but in the couple years that I've been doing this, I've discovered that I can't do what so many other bloggers do, as much as I would like to be able to. I need to have more realistic expectations of myself so that I don't get overwhelmed and that blogging remains an escape and a hobby and not simply another demand on my time. I've decided to commit to blogging at least 3 days a week and then if I have extra time, go for it! I spend several hours one day a week reading blog posts and commenting and also anytime I have some spare time, I visit my favorite blogs and comment. Like tonight, I can't sleep so I'm browsing my Bloglovin! :) I've found that if I don't make such rigid rules for myself, I'm much better able to juggle things effectively. Although, my husband makes those same whiny noises about too much time on the computer! lol

  3. I can only blog on weekends, which means schedule, schedule, schedule! But it's also about finding the perfect balance of blogging and studying. It's so easy to forget about my studies.

  4. I tend to get caught on a work (my boss doesn't know either) and then I dedicate an hour or so after the kids go to bed while my BF is watching his movies. Movies I really don't care to watch. I sits on the couch and watches. I sit in the chair with the laptop or iPad. It's worked well so far.

  5. My husband makes those comments too haha

I am on the computer for at least 3-4 hrs every morning. The boys go to school early so I tend to draft and edit the most then, unless I work in the AM (which isn't often) If that is the case, then I don't even get on. 99% of my blogging is done in the morning. Which is funny because it's like 8pm now LOL

I have been getting better at comments and reading other blogs. I set aside 2-3 days a week for this alone. That way, that is ALL I DO and I can hit more blogs that way. I also spend at least 1 day looking for books, signing up for tours or browsing netgalley. I use to do ALL OF THIS in one day and it was killing me.

I think if you pace yourself, set a small schedule you'll be fine :)

    Great post!

  6. My hubby makes the SAME comments! SOOO I'm going to try something new starting tomorrow. On Saturdays I'm going to try to do all my posts for the coming week & then Sundays go comment on other blogs to show my blogger love. That way hopefully it will cut down on my time during the week! Fingers crossed this works out!

  7. I'm fairly new at blogging and it definitely takes a lot of time. If I have time in the morning, I read through some of the blogs I follow and comment (sort of like reading the paper). I mainly do everything at night. I thought the reviews would take the most time, but it's more time-consuming to read other blogs, comment, etc. Scheduling everything makes it so much better, that way if you have time you can go ahead and have things scheduled a week or two in advance. But I'm having fun! ~Pam

  8. It does tend to take over doesn't it! I only write blog posts at the weekend now, I get up early to do this and really look forward to it. During the week, I visit blogs and reply to comments during the day whenever I have a spare hour or so. But between reading, reviewing, formatting, commenting, etc; I feel like I'm always behind.

  9. Yeah, my family complains too. And I agree with you, I'm most efficient if I try to do reading throughout the week, write posts in one big chunk, and then try to catch up on comments when I have a few spare minutes. Sometimes it doesn't work that way, but I try!

  10. I don't really write blog posts every day (I usually try and get them written on the weekend and then just publish them on the days they need to published/schedule them) but I do go and visit other blogs pretty much every day. It's incredibly time consuming and definitely takes a massive chunk out of the day!

  11. I look through other blogs every morning as I eat breakfast, yum! But I generally write posts in spurts, two or three once or twice a week. I try to get everything prepared for the week scheduled on the weekend since school is too stressful as it is. I am trying to write reviews sooner after I finish the book, but sometimes it goes a day or two >.>

  12. I'm too busy at work to do anything for my blog, so I have to do everything at home. My husband is a teacher, so on those evenings that I'm not at work and he's grading papers, he doesn't mind that my attention is elsewhere. And when I work in the evening, he's not home during the day when I am so I can blog then.

  13. Interesting question! I blog three times a week, maybe a little more if I have time, sometimes a little less. If I tried to blog everyday I think I would get bored/run out of ideas/run out of time to read.

I don't think anyone should feel they have to blog any more or less than they enjoy :)
