I don’t know about
you, but most of the time I have a hard
time trying to choose what book to read next. It usually takes me a while to decide if I
should read a review book or if I
should read one that has been sitting on
my shelf for over a year?
So, in order to get
some room back on my shelf, I have come
up with a system that I think will help me out tremendously.
From now on I’m going
to alternate between a review book and
one off of my shelf. So, once I get
done with the review book that I’m reading now, I will pick one off of my shelf
and read that one. I think that this is
the best solution for me to get more space on my TBR shelf (I’ve asked for a
new bookshelf for Christmas *fingers crossed*) and to keep my review pile
caught up.
Talk to me
How do you decide
between review books and books that you own?
Do you have a system?
I don't really have much of a choice. I can't bring electronic devices to school, so no ARCs. And as much as I want to read them on weekends, I keep getting sidetracked. So yeah, I have a big pile that needs to be read.
ReplyDeleteOh, well this is helpful :D I hope you find your system effective! I don't have a system, but I usually just pick the most interesting book on the shelf. If there are a lot of those, I just go for the nearest one. Haha!
ReplyDeleteI was finding myself stressing out about this too. What I did was; Schedule specific books for certain days of the week. Monday ARCs- Tuesday Library, etc.. So then, I would just alternate between them all. It seems to be working out so far!
ReplyDeleteI hope your system works out for you! Let me know how it goes :)
Wish I could help but I have the exact same issue, there are so many books I own that I desperately want to read, Divergent and Throne of Glass, for two. I wish I could follow that system, it's a great idea! I just feel so guilty for not reading review books first, haha!
ReplyDeleteWell, either fortunately or unfortunately, I don't really have many review books to read. But I do feel like I have to read the books I have from the library. I usually try and alternate between types (dystopian, contemporary, fantasy, etc) just to mix it up. But your system does sound like a good idea. ~Pam
ReplyDeleteI had exactly the same problem. All I was reading was review books and I hated ignoring all my own books that I had been so excited about buying. Now I read one review book, one of my own every week and usually one I won as well. I read about 4 books so the extra one is usually another review book. It feels better to have a system and I no longer feel I'm ignoring big chunks of my books.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard for me to decide what to read next too. I have so many books that I've been wanting to read for a long time, but there are always new books coming along! I buy 2-4 new books a week plus occasionally I'll get a review book. I need to back off the buying until I read some of what I already have.
ReplyDeleteI think that sounds like a great way to tackle your pile of books you own! I might need to try something similar :)
ReplyDeleteI just have a system of reading whatever I want whenever I want haha. This tends to work well for me because I read relatively quickly, so I don't really need to worry about not being able to meet deadlines for review books. And I guess it doesn't even really matter when you publish a review for a review book (as long as it's not a year later or something like that :P). It's good just to step back from the review pile every once in a while and tackle the TBR.
